Mustang V‑Labs: Windows to Windows Instructions

Overview

This article explains how to use Mustang V‑Labs to connect from a Windows computer to an SMSU Windows lab computer using Remote Desktop.

Before You Begin

You will need:

  • Your StarID username and password
    • Username format: smsu.edu\YourStarID
      (example: smsu.edu\ab1234cd)
  • A Windows computer
  • Internet access

Important

  • Always save your files to OneDrive or email them to yourself.
  • Files saved directly on lab computers are automatically deleted.
  • Always log off the remote computer when you are finished.

Step 1: Open the Mustang V‑Labs Computer List

  1. Open a web browser.
  2. Go to the Mustang V‑Labs computer list: View available Mustang V‑Labs computers
  3. Locate an available computer.

Step 2: Connect to a Computer

  1. Click Connect next to the computer you want to use.
  2. A connection file will download to your computer.

Step 3: Open the Connection File

  1. Open the downloaded file.
  2. The Remote Desktop Connection window will appear.
  3. Click Connect to proceed.

Step 4: Sign In

  1. Enter your StarID credentials:
    • Username: smsu.edu\YourStarID
    • Password: Your StarID password
  2. Click OK or Connect to sign in.

Step 5: Use the Remote Computer

  • You should now be connected to the Windows lab workstation.

Step 6: Log Off When Finished

When you are done using Mustang V‑Labs:

  • Save your files to OneDrive or email them to yourself.
  • Log off the remote computer.

Notes

  • Make sure your files are saved before logging off.
  • Logging off properly ensures computers remain available for other users.
