Student Printing and Computer Access

Students can print from personal computers as well as from campus computers located in the library and computer labs.

To print:

  1. Send your document to print.
  2. Select the correct printer for your location.
  3. Release or collect your print job at the printer.

If you need help setting up printing on a personal computer, contact the Technology Resource Center (TRC) Helpdesk.

Printer Locations

Printers are available in the following locations:

  • All campus computer labs
  • Mini‑Lab in Commons West
  • Library (Main Floor) – color printer available

Important:
The printer in the Commons West Mini‑Lab requires students to bring their own paper.

Printing Costs and Quota

Each student receives a $25 printing allowance per semester.

Per‑Page Costs

  • Black and white (one‑sided): $0.05 per page
  • Color (one‑sided): $0.25 per page

Running Out of Your Print Quota

If you use all of your initial $25 allowance, you can purchase additional pages:

  • Additional printing funds are sold in $5 increments
  • Payment is made using Mustang Money
  • To add printing funds, contact the Technology Resource Center (TRC) at TRC@SMSU.edu

Adding Mustang Money

If you do not have funds in your Mustang Money account, you can:

  • Visit the Mustang Card Center
    • Location: Founders Hall (FH) 118
    • Hours (class days): 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
  • Add funds to your Mustang Money account online
    • Note: Online deposits include a $1 convenience fee

Rollover Policy

  • Unused portions of the initial $25 allowance do not roll over to the next semester.
  • Purchased printing pages do roll over to future semesters if they were bought after the initial allowance was used.

Wireless Printing

Wireless printing is available in all academic buildings on campus.

Wireless printing is not available in:

  • Residence Halls
  • Foundation Residence Apartments

Computer Access for Students

Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) provides hundreds of Windows and Mac computers for student use across campus.

  • All lab computers require a StarID and password to sign in.
  • Computers are available in academic buildings, labs, and the library.
