Video Conferencing and Video Recording Tools
Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) provides two primary tools for web conferencing and video content creation: Zoom and Kaltura. These tools support teaching, learning, meetings, and secure video sharing for students, faculty, and staff.
Zoom (Web Conferencing)
Zoom is the official web conferencing platform for Minnesota State. Zoom can be used for:
- Online classes
- Meetings and collaboration
- Virtual office hours
- Webinars
Access Zoom
Use the Minnesota State Zoom portal:
Go to the Minnesota State Zoom website
Signing in to Zoom
You can sign in to Zoom using a web browser or the Zoom desktop/mobile app.
If signing in through a web browser:
- Go to the Minnesota State Zoom website.
- Select Sign In.
- You will be redirected to the Minnesota State sign‑in page.
- Enter your StarID@go.minnstate.edu (Student) or StarID@minnstate.edu (Employee) and StarID password, then select Sign In.
- After signing in, your browser may prompt you to open the Zoom application.
- Select Open or Open Zoom Meetings to host or join a meeting.
Note: Using your StarID ensures access to Minnesota State licensed Zoom features.
Zoom Help and Training Resources
Zoom provides 24/7 support, including public holidays.
You can:
- Contact Zoom support by email or live chat
- Access step‑by‑step self‑service guides
- Watch short instructional videos
- Attend live Zoom training sessions

Kaltura (Video Recording and Sharing)
Kaltura is a professional video platform used across Minnesota State for:
- Recording lectures and presentations
- Hosting and securely sharing videos
- Publishing video content
- Embedding videos into D2L Brightspace
Kaltura includes cloud‑based storage and supports both personal and instructional video content.
Access Kaltura
Visit the Minnesota State Kaltura MediaSpace site:
Go to Kaltura MediaSpace
Signing in to Kaltura
Use your Minnesota State credentials:
- Username: StarID@go.minnstate.edu (Student) or StarID@minnstate.edu (Employee)
- Password: Your StarID password
Once signed in, you can upload, manage, and share your video content or embed videos directly into D2L courses.
