The Center for Learning and Teaching (COLT) supports teaching and learning at Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU), with a focus on effective and inclusive use of technology.
COLT helps support SMSU’s growing online and blended learning environment by offering:

- One‑on‑one consultations with educators
Support is available in the following areas:

COLT Mission
COLT’s mission is to build a community of engaged, innovative, and creative educators at SMSU—both on campus and in virtual environments.
Through collaboration, exploration, and shared learning, COLT supports instructors in enhancing teaching practices and student learning experiences.
COLT Office and Learning Spaces
The COLT office is located on the 5th floor of McFarland Library and serves as a welcoming space for faculty and staff to explore teaching with technology.
The office includes spaces designed for:
- Meetings and collaborative discussions
- Workshops and training sessions
- Informal faculty conversations and “watch parties”
- Exploring emerging technologies, including virtual reality
- Relaxation and connection with colleagues
The space also offers panoramic views of the SMSU campus, creating an inviting environment for creativity and reflection.
