Overview
This article explains how to use Mustang V‑Labs to connect from a Mac computer to an SMSU macOS lab computer using the Windows App from the Apple App Store.
Before You Begin
You will need:
- Your StarID username and password
- Username format: smsu.edu\YourStarID
(example: smsu.edu\ab1234cd)
- A Mac running macOS
- Internet access
- The Windows App installed
Important
- Always save your files to OneDrive or email them to yourself.
- Files saved directly on lab computers are automatically deleted.
- Always log off the remote computer when you are finished.
Step 1: Install the Windows App (New Users Only)
- Open the App Store on your Mac.
- Search for Windows App.
- Download and install the application.
Returning users can skip this step and continue to Step 2.

Step 2: Choose an Available macOS Lab Computer
- Open a web browser.
- Go to the SMSU Mustang V‑Labs computer list: View available Mustang V‑Labs computers
- Look for computers with an Apple icon next to them. These indicate macOS lab computers.
- Copy the name of any available Mac computer.

Step 3: Open the Windows App and Add a PC
- Open the Windows App.
- Select the plus (+) button in the top‑right corner.
- Choose Add PC.

Step 4: Enter PC Connection Settings
Fill in the fields as shown below:
- PC name: pk4t9h2l66.smsu.edu
- Credentials: Ask when required
- User account: smsu.edu\YourStarID
(example: smsu.edu\ab1234cd)
- Gateway: labconnect.smsu.edu:8443
- Bypass for local addresses: Not checked
After entering all required information, select Add.

Step 5: Verify the PC Is Saved
After adding the PC, it should appear in the Windows App main screen as a saved connection.

Step 6: Sign In to the Remote Mac Computer
- Select the saved PC connection.
- When prompted, enter your StarID username and password.
- Select Continue to proceed.

Step 7: Connect
- Select Connect.
- Accept any security or certificate prompts if they appear.
You should now be connected to the remote macOS lab computer.

Step 8: Log Off When Finished
When you are done using Mustang V‑Labs:
- Save all files to OneDrive or email them to yourself.
- Log off the remote macOS computer.
This helps protect your account and ensures computers remain available for others.
