Accessing Remote Desktop Resources (RDP)
Employees may need access to systems and applications that are not available on their SMSU‑managed device or that are required while working off campus. Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) allows you to securely access these resources.
Examples of systems available through Remote Desktop include:
Requesting Access
If you do not already have Remote Desktop access, you must submit a request.
Access must be approved before you can connect.
Important Off‑Campus Requirement
If you are off campus, you must first connect to the Cisco Secure Client (VPN) before accessing Remote Desktop resources.
Web Access to Remote Desktop
You can access Remote Desktop through a web browser.
Steps
- Go to the
SMSU Remote Desktop Web Portal
- Sign in using the following credentials:
- Username: YourStarID@smsu.edu
- Password: Your StarID password
Once signed in, available applications will be displayed.
Windows App for macOS Users
Mac users can access Windows‑based applications using the Microsoft Windows App.

Adding SMSU Work Resources in the Windows App (Mac)
Follow these steps to ensure your SMSU applications appear correctly.
Steps
- Open the Windows App.
- Select the Apps tab on the left side of the window.
- If no apps appear:
- Select the Plus (+) button at the top.
- Choose Add Workspace from the menu.
- If Work Resources already appear:
- Remove them first, as they are likely linked to an outdated login.
- When prompted, enter the following workspace URL:
https://remoteconnect.smsu.edu/rdweb/feed/webfeed.aspx
- Choose one of the following credential options:
- Ask when required, or
- Saved credentials, using:
- Username: YourStarID@smsu.edu
- Password: Your StarID password
- Return to the Apps tab.
Your available Windows applications should now be visible.
Signing In to Uniface
When opening Uniface:
- Enter your credentials using the same format:
- Username: YourStarID@smsu.edu
- Password: Your StarID password
