MacOS Support: Installing Fonts

Tags mac fonts macOS

Overview

MacOS users are able to download specific fonts not included in the standard font options. These guidelines provide access to essential branding tools, including fonts and templates often used by the marketing and publications office to maintain consistent visual standards. Student workers and staff frequently rely on these resources, and while many are readily available, specific downloads require the steps outlined below.

Installing Fonts on macOS

Follow these steps to install a font manually on your Mac:

  1. Open the “Go to Folder” Dialog: Click anywhere on your desktop to bring Finder into focus and in the top menu bar, click "Go" then scroll to "Go to Folder..." and click that as well

  2. Navigate to the Fonts Folder:  In the dialog box that appears, type the following path: /Users/[StarID]/Library/FontsReplace [StarID] with your actual StarID (e.g., ab1234cd) and click Go.

  3. Install the Font: Locate your .ttf font file then drag and drop the .ttf file into the Fonts folder you just opened.

  4. Verify Installation: Open an application like TextEdit or Microsoft Word and check the font list to confirm your new font appears and is usable.
