Overview
This article explains how to use Mustang V‑Labs to connect from a Mac computer to an SMSU Windows lab computer using the Windows App.
Before You Begin
You will need:
- Your StarID username and password
- Username format: smsu.edu\YourStarID
(example: smsu.edu\ab1234cd)
- A Mac running macOS
- Internet access
- The Windows App installed
Important
- Always save your files to OneDrive or email them to yourself.
- Files saved directly on lab computers are automatically deleted.
- Always log off the remote computer when you are finished.
Step 1: Install the Windows App (New Users Only)
- Open the App Store on your Mac.
- Search for Windows App.
- Download and install the application.
Returning users can skip this step and continue to Step 4.
Step 2: Open the Windows App and Add a PC
- Open the Windows App.
- Select the plus (+) button in the top‑right corner.
- Choose Add PC.

Step 3: Enter PC Connection Settings
Fill in the fields exactly as shown below:
- PC name: fk25st3.smsu.edu
- User account: smsu.edu\YourStarID
- Gateway: labconnect.smsu.edu:8443
- Bypass for local addresses: Not checked

Step 4: Choose a Windows Lab Computer
- Open a web browser.
- Go to the Mustang V‑Labs computer list: View available Mustang V‑Labs computers
- Locate an available computer.
- Select Connect next to the computer you want to use.

Step 5: Download and Open the Connection File
- Selecting Connect downloads a connection file.
- Open the downloaded file using the Windows App.

Step 6: Sign In to the Remote Computer
- Enter your StarID username and password when prompted.
- Select Continue to proceed.

Step 7: Log Off When Finished
When you are done using Mustang V‑Labs:
- Save your files to OneDrive or email them to yourself.
- Log off the remote Windows computer.

Notes for Returning Users
- If the Windows App is already installed, begin at Step 4.
