Combine Multiple Course Sections in D2L Brightspace (Faculty)

Overview

Faculty now have the ability to combine their courses in D2L Brightspace. All course merge requests (combining multiple course sections together) should be requested through the self-service

Step‑by‑Step Instructions

1. Log in to D2L Brightspace

  1. Go to the SMSU D2L Brightspace login page.
  2. Sign in using your StarID and password.

2. Open Course Self‑Service

  1. Select Resources from the top navigation.
  2. Choose Course Self‑Service.

3. Sign in to SharePoint (if prompted)

  • If prompted, sign in using:
    • Username: StarID@minnstate.edu
    • Password: Your StarID password

4. View Your Courses

  1. Select My Courses.

5. Filter Courses by Semester

  1. Use the Advanced Search options.
  2. Filter your courses by the appropriate semester.

6. Select Course Sections to Combine

  1. Locate the course sections you want to merge.
  2. Select the checkbox next to each course section.
  3. Select Combine.

7. Confirm Merged Course Details

  1. Review the list of selected courses.
  2. The first course listed is the base course.
    • All content from the base course will be copied into the merged course.
  3. Click the pin icon to adjust.
Important: The section listed first is the ‘base’ course.  Any course materials in the base course will be copied automatically into the new, merged course. Click the pin icon to adjust.

8. Submit the Merge Request

  1. Type merge into the confirmation field.
  2. Select Merge to submit your request.

After You Submit

  • Your merge request is sent for processing.
  • You will receive an email notification when the merge is complete.
  • Once completed, access the merged course from your D2L course list.
