CAP Server Access Overview
The CAP is a secure, separate virtual local area network (VLAN). It is used by authorized computers and users to access sensitive student, faculty, and staff information.
Because this environment contains confidential data, access is restricted.
Requesting Access to CAP
Before you can connect to the CAP server, you must:
- Submit a Shared Drive Access and Support request.
- Complete and submit the required permission form.
- Receive confirmation that your access has been approved.
Once access is granted, follow the steps below to connect.
How to Connect to the CAP Server
You will use Remote Desktop Connection to access the CAP server.
Step 1: Open Remote Desktop Connection
- On your computer, open Remote Desktop Connection.
Step 2: Enter the CAP Server Name
- In the Computer field, type:
CAPCONNECT
- Select Show Options (located near the bottom of the window).
- Check the box labeled Always ask for credentials.

Step 3: Connect and Sign In
- Select Connect.
- When prompted, enter your StarID password.
- After signing in, you will be connected to the CAP server.
Future Connections
After you successfully connect for the first time:
- Open Remote Desktop Connection.
- Confirm that the Computer field still shows CAPCONNECT.
- Select Connect.
- Enter your StarID password when prompted.
You will then be signed in to the CAP server.
