Overview

The BitLocker Recovery service allows users to request a BitLocker recovery key to regain access to a Windows computer that is displaying the BitLocker recovery screen.

BitLocker is a security feature that encrypts data on Windows devices. If BitLocker is triggered, you may see a blue recovery screen that prevents access until a recovery key is provided.

This service is available to:

  • Student workers
  • Faculty
  • Staff

When to Use This Service

Use this service if:

  • Your Windows computer displays a BitLocker recovery screen
  • You are unable to sign in due to BitLocker encryption
  • You are prompted to enter a BitLocker recovery key

What This Service Includes

When you submit a BitLocker Recovery request, the IT support team will:

  • Review your request and verify your identity
  • Locate the correct BitLocker recovery key
  • Provide the recovery key needed to restore access to your computer

What You Need Before Submitting a Request

To resolve this issue, the BitLocker Recovery Key ID is required.

You can find the Recovery Key ID:

  • On the BitLocker recovery screen displayed on your computer
  • Labeled as Recovery Key ID

Include this Recovery Key ID in your service request to avoid delays.

What to Include in Your Request

To help ensure a quick resolution, please include:

  • Your full name and username
  • The computer name or asset tag (if available)
  • The BitLocker Recovery Key ID shown on the screen
  • Where the device is located (on campus or remote)

Providing complete and accurate information helps the support team restore access as quickly as possible.
