Overview
The BitLocker Recovery service allows users to request a BitLocker recovery key to regain access to a Windows computer that is displaying the BitLocker recovery screen.
BitLocker is a security feature that encrypts data on Windows devices. If BitLocker is triggered, you may see a blue recovery screen that prevents access until a recovery key is provided.
This service is available to:
- Student workers
- Faculty
- Staff
When to Use This Service
Use this service if:
- Your Windows computer displays a BitLocker recovery screen
- You are unable to sign in due to BitLocker encryption
- You are prompted to enter a BitLocker recovery key
What This Service Includes
When you submit a BitLocker Recovery request, the IT support team will:
- Review your request and verify your identity
- Locate the correct BitLocker recovery key
- Provide the recovery key needed to restore access to your computer
What You Need Before Submitting a Request
To resolve this issue, the BitLocker Recovery Key ID is required.
You can find the Recovery Key ID:
- On the BitLocker recovery screen displayed on your computer
- Labeled as Recovery Key ID
Include this Recovery Key ID in your service request to avoid delays.
What to Include in Your Request
To help ensure a quick resolution, please include:
- Your full name and username
- The computer name or asset tag (if available)
- The BitLocker Recovery Key ID shown on the screen
- Where the device is located (on campus or remote)
Providing complete and accurate information helps the support team restore access as quickly as possible.
