Network - Port Activation

Overview

The Network – Port Activation service allows users to request assistance with activating or reconfiguring a network port on the SMSU campus.

This service is commonly used when a wired network connection is not working or when a network port needs to be configured to support a specific device, location, or function.

Network port activation may include configuring the port to the appropriate VLAN (Virtual Local Area Network). A VLAN is a way of organizing network traffic to ensure devices connect securely and function correctly based on their purpose.

When to Use This Service

Use this service if you need to:

  • Activate a wired network (ethernet) port that is not currently working
  • Reconfigure a network port for a new device or workstation
  • Support an office move, equipment replacement, or space reconfiguration
  • Connect approved devices that require a specific network configuration

This service is intended for university‑owned or university‑approved devices.
