Overview

The Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) Campus Network consists of multiple systems that work together to provide secure and reliable network and internet access for the entire campus community, including faculty, staff, students, and guests.

Different network options are available depending on your role and location on campus. The sections below explain the available services and how each group can connect.

Eduroam

Eduroam is a secure, global wireless network designed for the education and research community.

Who Can Use Eduroam

  • Minnesota State students
  • Minnesota State faculty and staff

How to Sign In

Use your StarID credentials:

  • Students: StarID@go.minnstate.edu
  • Faculty and Staff: StarID@minnstate.edu

Eduroam is available across all Minnstate campuses

Faculty and Staff Network Access

Faculty and staff have access to both wired (ethernet) and wireless (Wi‑Fi) network services.

Wired (Ethernet) Access

  • Available in office locations
  • Intended for university‑issued primary workstations, such as desktops or laptops

Wireless (Wi‑Fi) Access

Wireless access is available for:

  • University‑issued portable devices (laptops, tablets, phones)
  • Personal devices used on campus

Wireless connectivity supports flexibility for teaching, meetings, and daily work.

Student Network Access

Students primarily use the campus wireless network within academic buildings and common areas, including:

  • Classrooms
  • Computer labs
  • The Student Center
  • Study and collaboration spaces

This secure wireless network supports personal devices used for coursework, learning, and campus activities.

Guest Network Access

Campus guests can connect to the internet using the SMSU Guest Network.

Guest Access Options

  • SMSU-Guests
    Guests can follow the provided instructions to connect to the guest network.
  • Sponsored Guest Accounts
    Some departments or events provide pre‑arranged guest access.

If sponsored access is available, account details will be shared directly by the hosting department or event organizer.
