StarID Password reset quick steps
-
Visit the StarID Self Service website at starid.minnstate.edu
-
Choose one of the options: Reset my Password, Activate my StarID or What is my StarID
-
Select one of the following options on the next page (Tech ID, Email Address, etc.)
-
Enter the requested information and set your password.
Change or Reset StarID Password steps
- Go to starid.minnstate.edu
- Select "Reset My Password"

- The two main methods to create a new password are the "I know my Tech ID (8 digit student ID)" and "I know my email address."
- The tech ID option requires the 8 numbers found on your SMSU student card (not your star ID). This option also requires your SSN.
- The email address option requires your personal email address (the one that you first used during your registration process), not the name of your school email.
- Both methods will give you further instructions to reset your password.
- Having reset your password, go to starid.minnstate.edu once more and this time select "Sign in to Profile."
- Sign in to your profile to verify that the password has been successfully reset.
If you are not able to use the method described above, then you will have to schedule a Zoom call with the TRC to verify your identity. An active camera will be required and you must have a state-issued id. Passports and driver's licenses are the most popular options.
The image in the id will be compared to your own person for verification. You will be given a verification code by the TRC staff. At that point, return to step 3 and select the "I have a verification code" option.
Please do not hesitate to message the TRC if you require any additional help completing these tasks.
