Zoom Phone System

Overview

Southwest Minnesota State University (SMSU) uses the Zoom Phone System, a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service that allows phone calls to be made over internet connections.

The Zoom Phone System supports multiple device types, including:

  • Physical desk phones
  • Softphones (computer applications)
  • Video phones
  • Conference phones
  • Mobile phones

This system supports on‑campus and remote communication.

Dialing Instructions

Use the following dialing formats when placing calls with the Zoom Phone System:

  • On‑Campus Calls: Dial the 6‑digit extension (75‑XXXX)
  • Local Calls: Dial the area code followed by the 7‑digit phone number
  • Long‑Distance Calls: Dial the area code followed by the 7‑digit phone number
  • Emergency Calls: Dial 911

Using the Zoom Desktop Application

You can manage and use your Zoom Phone through the Zoom desktop application. This includes:

  • Checking or updating phone settings
  • Making and receiving calls
  • Accessing voicemail

Follow the Zoom Phone instructions provided by SMSU to configure and review your settings in the desktop app.

Voicemail Setup and Access

Use the Zoom Phone voicemail features to listen to and manage voice messages.

You can:

  • Set up your voicemail for the first time
  • Update voicemail greetings and settings
  • Access voicemail messages through the Zoom app

If you experience issues setting up or accessing voicemail, contact the Technology Resource Center (TRC) for assistance.
